California to issue order on faulty gas pumps


Latches that keep gas flowing when consumers take their hand off the nozzle may soon be removed at many stations around the state.

The state fire marshal today is expected to issue a safety mandate – affecting one-third of California gas stations – that will make pumping gas a little less convenient.

But it will make the process safer, said Daniel Berlant of the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
