Flood control board pressed on flood problems in Natomas

While Sacramento's flood control leaders ponder a property tax increase to keep a massive levee project alive in Natomas, they're also getting heat from other residents who feel their own flood-related problems are being neglected.

The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency met Thursday, in part, to discuss a plan to ask Natomas residents for an extra $40 million in property taxes, or an average of $60 annually per home.

That proposal, which the SAFCA board will vote on next month, is needed to accommodate a project that has swelled to a total cost of $780 million, largely due to design changes mandated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
