Insurance Commissioner Poizner rejects hike in workers' comp rate

Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner on Friday urged workers' compensation insurers to hold the line on premiums and ignore an industry call for higher rates.

Poizner officially rejected a proposed 28 percent increase submitted by the industry-run Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau. Both sides' findings – Poizner's and the rating bureau's – are advisory. Insurance companies are free to set workers' comp premiums as they wish.
