Two years ago, students at Mary Deterding Elementary School in Carmichael hit the streets on a photojournalism assignment – looking through lenses at pedestrian safety.
Standing at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Marconi Avenue as drivers turned right on a red light without looking, a fifth-grader said, "I don't think they even know what it's like to be a pedestrian."
