We have a sneaking suspicion that, after six months or a year, the Sacramento City Council will end up exactly where the Roseville City Council found itself on the "crash tax" last week: Disappointed by the amount of money coming in, dismayed by a reputation as unwelcoming to visitors and eager to get rid of the fee.
So why not skip the regret and repeal it sooner?
Roseville was one of the first cities in the region to jump on the "crash tax" bandwagon, adopting one in 2009. Expecting to collect $100,000 a year from the fee, it received only $40,000 in the first 18 months.
