About 15,000 PG&E customers in Northern California are currently experiencing storm-related power outages.  That includes 6,000 in the utility's Sierra Division, which includes Placer, Nevada and El Dorado County, said J.D. Guidi, a PG&E spokesman.

The Grass Valley area is one of the hardest hit, with 2,659 customers without electricity, he said.  Other involved areas include Placer County, west of Georgetown, and El Dorado County, southeast of Pollock Pines.

There was no estimate for when power would be restored there, but crews are working on the outage, he said.  Many of the outages are due to trees or tree limbs downing lines.  Other storm-caused failures have involved equipment failure or wind blowing lines together, Guidi said.

Outside the Sierra Division, many of the outages are in Mendocino and Humboldt counties.
