Through the mail, Yuba County is prodding residents to get flood insurance, even for those who live in parts of the county where the levees have been improved.
A mailer began arriving in county homes last week encouraging residents to buy insurance and take other steps to be ready for storm and flood season, an annual effort, said county Community Services and Development Director Kevin Mallen said.
Separately, owners of about 2,800 parcels received letters telling them because new Federal Emergency Management Authority maps define their property as having special flood risk, they're in a different, more urgent category.
Mallen said anyone with a federally backed mortgage for one of those 2,800 parcels must buy flood insurance ........
