This article in the Sacramento bee by Carlos Alcalá is getting alot of posts.  There are also other distractions such as eating, putting on makeup, dealing with kids, rushing to get to work, etc.  Maybe we should all just drive.  

The California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to hang up and drive and are promising a crackdown on distracted drivers this month.

California elected and public safety officials will gather at the CHP's training academy in West Sacramento Monday to promote the effort.

The parents of a driver who died in a distracted driving crash will be there, along with the vehicle that the victim was driving.

Among the local agencies promising zero tolerance is the police department of the Twin Rivers Unified School District.

Twin Rivers officials warn that first-time fines for students cited for texting while driving is $159.

They recommend turning off the phone before driving, pulling over to talk or message, and using phone apps that will hold calls and texts while driving.
