How vulnerable is Sacramento to large earthquakes? Can we experience a 9.0 quake here? Where can homeowners go to find out if they need quake insurance?

The Bee put the questions to John Rundle, professor of physics and geology at the Center for Computational Science and Engineering at UC Davis.

When have large earthquakes affected the Sacramento metropolitan area?

"We have so few," Rundle said, noting that the largest quake in recent decades was the 1975 Oroville earthquake. Before that, the most severe quake occurred on April 21, 1892, in Winters.
