Did You Know
Sometimes the value of a car is less than the balance on your car loan. There can be several reasons for this. Interest rate changes may have increased the amount of your loan. Rebates may not have been applied to the purchase price, or poor maintenance of the auto may have reduced its value.
The insurance company bases its payments on the actual cash value (acv) of the car, not the amount of your loan. You may be able to purchase a special type of insurance, known as guaranteed auto protection (gap), when you buy a car. Gap insurance covers the difference between the acv and your loan amount. Let us know if you are interested in this protection.
Take Pictures or a Video of Your Belongings
Homeowners who maintain an accurate home inventory tend to collect more reimbursement when filing an insurance claim. Yet less than 20% of homeowners have a current home inventory record. It's a good idea to take pictures or make a video of the items in your home. If you take pictures, write the details of the items on the back of the picture. If you make a video, narrate as you walk from room to room (what items are in the room, when and where you bought them and for how much). Photographing or videotaping your home’s inventory can be especially helpful if items are hard to describe on paper, or for items for which you no longer have a receipt.
Homeowners Insurance may not pay to replace everything
Most homeowner policies have "dollar limits" on certain types of belongings. Generally, these limits are on silverware, guns, jewelry, watches, furs, and computers. The limits usually cover losses of the average person. Give Cliff Cottam Insurance Services a call today to make sure your limits meet your individual needs.
Auto Legislation - - Prop 17
Proposition 17 was the measure known as the “Continuous Coverage Discount Initiative”. It was proposed to allow insurance companies to offer new customers a discount on their auto insurance premiums. It would have benefited more than 80% of drivers who maintain their auto insurance coverage by making them eligible to take their continuous coverage discount with them if they changed insurers. Unfortunately, this proposition did not get voter approval.
